Author Talk: Creating Outdoor Spaces that Connect Children with the Natural World

Bowdoinham welcomes Author Nancy Striniste, author of Nature Play at Home.   Monday, April 29 at 7pm

Nature play can awaken children’s senses, challenge their bodies, inspire their imaginations and build self-confidence. In order to grow up healthy and happy, children need abundant, unstructured time to play and explore in the natural world, but today’s children rarely have the opportunity to roam free outdoors. Bringing nature to the places where children spend their time is an answer.

Well-designed nature play spaces are inviting and endlessly engaging for children AND good for the planet. With rich, inspiring images from around the world, Nancy explains why and how to bring the beauty, adventure, and sustainability of nature play to backyards, schoolyards, churchyards, neighborhood parks, early childhood settings, and more.

In this interactive, 45 minute presentation, Nancy Striniste will share research with us, show us numerous images of natural play spaces, and guide the audience in their own search for creating outdoor playspaces for children of all ages.  More information about Nancy can be found at her website,  and on her Facebook Page,  at EarlySpaceLLC

Nancy will have books for purchase, $24.95 and she is happy to sign them as well. The author talk will take place in the Kendall Room of the Coombs Municipal Building, across the hall from the library, 13A School Street in Bowdoinham.  Call the library at 666-8405 if you have any questions.

The event is free.
