Bowdoinham resident Sarah Gagnon has been busy- raising her two young girls, restoring her old Bowdoinham farmhouse…and writing a novel! Date with a Rockstar has just been published by Spencer Hill Contemporary.
The library has 4 copies of the book to circulate in anticipation of Sarah’s Author talk on August 25, 7-9pm. Sarah will discuss the book, but also the creative process. Here is a little teaser about this YA novel:
Only one girl will win the cash prize…and a chance at love with Jeremy Bane.
Monet isn’t just another lust-struck teenager trying to win the heart of Rock God Jeremy Bane–she needs the prize money from his new reality show to cure her illness.
Monet has Fluxem, a contagious disease that’s spread through saliva. It’s completely curable if you have enough money, which she and her single mother don’t. Now that she’s on the show, Monet has to work harder to keep her Fluxem hidden. She only has to keep the secret long enough to woo Jeremy Bane so he picks her as the winner. She doesn’t even care about the love part; the prize alone will change her life.
But the real Jeremy Bane is nothing like she imagined. Monet finds herself fighting against feelings that make her want to give in to her attraction and Jeremy’s attempts for a kiss. The further she goes in the competition, the more impossible it becomes to resist him–and when the producers turn the tables and start digging up dirt on the contestants, Monet fears her secret will be revealed before she’s ready and ruin everything.
The only way to win Jeremy’s heart is to tell him the truth, but confessing her disease could cost her the competition, the prize money, and him.
In conjunction with the library’s summer reading program, “Every Hero has a Story”, we will host a Red Cross Blood Drive on Tuesday, August 5 from 8am to 1pm. The drive will be held at the Bowdoinham Town Hall.
We know that blood donors are heroes and that the need for blood increases during the summer, while blood donation decreases during that same time.
To get the kids involved, we had a speaker from the Red Cross come and tell the kids about blood donation. Similar to the programming they do in elementary schools, the red cross shared it’s “Half Pint Heroes” curriculum. They also offered a challenge to kids- to get the adults they know to donate blood at our drive on August 4.
For every donor that a child signs up, that child’s name is entered into a drawing for one of two toy robots! The library purchased a robot to use as a prize, and when Tom, our Red Cross liason saw how cool it was he said the Red Cross would donate another one! Two great chances to win.
Donors may contact the library to choose a donation time on August 4th, or they may go online to www.redcrossblood.org and enter the sponsor code BowdoinhamME. Eligible donors are also invited to donate “Double Reds” at 9am, 10am, 11 am and Noon. If you have questions about eligibility, please go to that same website for detailed information.
